Yoli: Could The Truth Prevent Aging?

April 14, 2010

Yoli-truth-blastcapResveratrol, an ingredient in Yoli “Truth”, has been shown to possibly prevent aging and increase vitality!

We all know that obesity is one of the most alarming health issues people across the world are experiencing. Today, resveratrol supplements are used as an effective weight loss tool. As a matter of fact, it’s one amongst the leading weight loss supplements out there in the market. It works by increasing our metabolism rate. Increase in metabolism rate helps an individual to burn fat at a faster rate, thereby leading to weight loss.

Besides weight loss, aging is one of the bothersome issues that we are currently engulfed with. As such, aging is a natural process, but we hate to admit this reality of life, considering the fact that we live in an image conscious world, where everyone wants to look and feel good all the time. Coming to resveratrol, it works as an anti-aging tool as well. This is welcoming news for all those people who are spending a fortune on anti-aging products. CLICK HERE TO SEARCH FOR PUB MED RESULTS

Luckily, Yoli has placed resveratrol into it’s flag ship product “Truth”. Could the truth prevent some effects of aging? Only time will tell.

Several researches have concluded that resveratrol halts the aging process to a great degree, due to its natural health beneficial properties. While these studies were mainly concluded on animals, one can’t defy real life experiences. You will find many individuals out there singing praises about resveratrol. In fact, resveratrol was also discussed in one of the most popular television show featured by Orphan Winfrey.

Only a short time before the conception of Yoli, resveratrol was stumbled upon by scientists looking for a way to activate the anti aging gene. Surprisingly, resveratrol (up until just recently) was known to have high concentrations in red wine. However, in order to receive the benefits of resveratrol from the red wine, you would have to consume up to or around 1,000 glasses of red wine in a single day.

WHO WANTS TO DRINK 1,000 GLASSES OF WINE DAILY?

Now I don’t know about you but  thoughts like that could have when mentioned in public, have you skipping and jumping or even stumbling  your way to some AA meetings.

One of the recent studies also unveiled the fact that it can boost one’s endurance level. Boost in energy is a certain bonus, even if you are taking the supplement to reduce your body weight.

Let there be no doubt, resveratrol could be a house hold name in the near future. How would you prefer to catch this wave of opportunity? Would you want to be in the front of the wave ready to ride it as your ship comes in, or would you rather say “I saw it coming in and side stepped it”.

Don’t let this be a coulda shoulda woulda kinda moment.

Yoli Truth: Falsely Sweet Pledges From Trash Food Companies

April 7, 2010

WHEN SODA companies applaud the latest campaign to fight obesity, you know there is much more to the story.

In launching a new White House initiative against obesity called “Let’s Move,’’ First Lady Michelle Obama this week said, “Our kids didn’t do this to themselves. Our kids don’t decide what’s served to them at school or whether there’s time for gym or recess. Our kids don’t choose to make food products with tons of sugar and sodium in super-sized portions, and then to have those products marketed to them everywhere they turn.’’ Instead of taking these comments as fighting words, the obesity industry feigned being an amen choir.

michelle-obama-sugar-yoli

PepsiCo and the American Beverage Association both applauded Obama. The Association promised more clear calorie information on bottles and cans. Coca-Cola CEO Muhtar Kent said, “We are honored to play a role in this important action. We are going to be seen as part of the solution.’’

A key source of the obesity problem now claims to be part of the solution, in the spirit of beer companies and cigarette companies claiming marquee roles in solving underage drinking and smoking.

But the laudable intentions of one of the fittest First Families in the nation’s history are in danger of being drowned out by the laughter of trash food companies. The reason they can applaud the Obamas is because they have purchased so much silence everywhere else.

The American Beverage Association and Coke entities spent $31 million in lobbying last year, much of it to shoot down taxes on sugary beverages at federal and state levels. The association had a $2 million ad campaign against taxes, which public health experts calculate would cut consumption and contribute revenues to public health programs to repair the damage done to the nation’s health by soda.

A UCLA study last year found that 43 percent of the additional calories Americans have been consuming since the 1970s come from soda, making it the top source of added sugar in the national diet. Whereas the recommended amount of sugar per person is 5-to-9 teaspoons a day, one 20-ounce soda contains 17 teaspoons. Last fall, President Obama said soda taxes are “an idea we should be exploring. There’s no doubt that our kids drink way too much soda.’’

But the soda companies’ cash and clout ended the talk about federal taxes. The Los Angeles Times reported last week on how pressure and cash from the nation’s trash food and fast food giants and subsidiary companies have influenced Latino groups, including doctors, and African American politicians – including Representative John Lewis, who represents the Atlanta district where Coke is headquartered – to question food taxes as a burden on the poor (as if dying from diabetes and heart disease isn’t worse). Coke itself likens the taxes to a Communist control of grocery carts.

Another reason the soda companies cynically applaud Michelle Obama is because they are replacing any calorie conscious Americans with unsuspecting consumers in developing countries. Coke has a stated goal of doubling its servings to 3 billion a day by 2020. Coke’s unit case volume in the last quarter was up 29 percent in China and 20 percent in India, the latter of which is experiencing one of the biggest explosions of diabetes in the world. Pepsi claimed 32 percent beverage growth in India in 2009 and double-digit gains in snack volume in India, Pakistan, Egypt and Thailand.

This of course should not stop Michelle Obama from trying to raise some awareness about obesity and get whatever voluntary industry pledges she can to better label soda and increase school-lunch nutrition. But under current politics, those efforts pale against the profits that are turning America’s obesity crisis into a global public health disaster.

The “Let’s Move’’ campaign has the potential to become a movement, but only when the trash food and sugar sugar lobby can no longer throw its weight around Capitol Hill, applauding Michelle Obama’s efforts while weighing down our children with more pounds today and more disease tomorrow.

Yoli Truth: High Fructose Corn Syrup Is Worse Than Sugar

April 7, 2010

A sweet problem: Princeton researchers find that high-fructose corn syrup prompts considerably more weight gain

A Princeton University research team has demonstrated that all sweeteners are not equal when it comes to weight gain: Rats with access to high-fructose corn syrup gained significantly more weight than those with access to table sugar, even when their overall caloric intake was the same.

Princeton University research team, including (from left) undergraduate Elyse Powell, psychology professor Bart Hoebel, visiting research associate Nicole Avena and graduate student Miriam Bocarsly, has demonstrated that rats with access to high-fructose corn syrup -- a sweetener found in many popular sodas -- gain significantly more weight than those with access to water sweetened with table sugar, even when they consume the same number of calories. The work may have important implications for understanding obesity trends in the United States. (Photo: Denise Applewhite)

In addition to causing significant weight gain in lab animals, long-term consumption of high-fructose corn syrup also led to abnormal increases in body fat, especially in the abdomen, and a rise in circulating blood fats called triglycerides. The researchers say the work sheds light on the factors contributing to obesity trends in the United States.

“Some people have claimed that high-fructose corn syrup is no different than other sweeteners when it comes to weight gain and obesity, but our results make it clear that this just isn’t true, at least under the conditions of our tests,” said psychology professor Bart Hoebel, who specializes in the neuroscience of appetite, weight and sugar addiction. “When rats are drinking high-fructose corn syrup at levels well below those in soda pop, they’re becoming obese — every single one, across the board. Even when rats are fed a high-fat diet, you don’t see this; they don’t all gain extra weight.”
In results published online March 18 by the journal Pharmacology, Biochemistry and Behavior, the researchers from the Department of Psychology and the Princeton Neuroscience Institute reported on two experiments investigating the link between the consumption of high-fructose corn syrup and obesity.

The first study showed that male rats given water sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup in addition to a standard diet of rat chow gained much more weight than male rats that received water sweetened with table sugar, or sucrose, in conjunction with the standard diet. The concentration of sugar in the sucrose solution was the same as is found in some commercial soft drinks, while the high-fructose corn syrup solution was half as concentrated as most sodas.

The second experiment — the first long-term study of the effects of high-fructose corn syrup consumption on obesity in lab animals — monitored weight gain, body fat and triglyceride levels in rats with access to high-fructose corn syrup over a period of six months. Compared to animals eating only rat chow, rats on a diet rich in high-fructose corn syrup showed characteristic signs of a dangerous condition known in humans as the metabolic syndrome, including abnormal weight gain, significant increases in circulating triglycerides and augmented fat deposition, especially visceral fat around the belly. Male rats in particular ballooned in size: Animals with access to high-fructose corn syrup gained 48 percent more weight than those eating a normal diet.

“These rats aren’t just getting fat; they’re demonstrating characteristics of obesity, including substantial increases in abdominal fat and circulating triglycerides,” said Princeton graduate student Miriam Bocarsly. “In humans, these same characteristics are known risk factors for high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, cancer and diabetes.” In addition to Hoebel and Bocarsly, the research team included Princeton undergraduate Elyse Powell and visiting research associate Nicole Avena, who was affiliated with Rockefeller University during the study and is now on the faculty at the University of Florida. The Princeton researchers note that they do not know yet why high-fructose corn syrup fed to rats in their study generated more triglycerides, and more body fat that resulted in obesity.

High-fructose corn syrup and sucrose are both compounds that contain the simple sugars fructose and glucose, but there at least two clear differences between them. First, sucrose is composed of equal amounts of the two simple sugars — it is 50 percent fructose and 50 percent glucose — but the typical high-fructose corn syrup used in this study features a slightly imbalanced ratio, containing 55 percent fructose and 42 percent glucose. Larger sugar molecules called higher saccharides make up the remaining 3 percent of the sweetener. Second, as a result of the manufacturing process for high-fructose corn syrup, the fructose molecules in the sweetener are free and unbound, ready for absorption and utilization. In contrast, every fructose molecule in sucrose that comes from cane sugar or beet sugar is bound to a corresponding glucose molecule and must go through an extra metabolic step before it can be utilized.

This creates a fascinating puzzle. The rats in the Princeton study became obese by drinking high-fructose corn syrup, but not by drinking sucrose. The critical differences in appetite, metabolism and gene expression that underlie this phenomenon are yet to be discovered, but may relate to the fact that excess fructose is being metabolized to produce fat, while glucose is largely being processed for energy or stored as a carbohydrate, called glycogen, in the liver and muscles.

In the 40 years since the introduction of high-fructose corn syrup as a cost-effective sweetener in the American diet, rates of obesity in the U.S. have skyrocketed, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 1970, around 15 percent of the U.S. population met the definition for obesity; today, roughly one-third of the American adults are considered obese, the CDC reported. High-fructose corn syrup is found in a wide range of foods and beverages, including fruit juice, soda, cereal, bread, yogurt, ketchup and mayonnaise. On average, Americans consume 60 pounds of the sweetener per person every year.

“Our findings lend support to the theory that the excessive consumption of high-fructose corn syrup found in many beverages may be an important factor in the obesity epidemic,” Avena said.

The new research complements previous work led by Hoebel and Avena demonstrating that sucrose can be addictive, having effects on the brain similar to some drugs of abuse.

In the future, the team intends to explore how the animals respond to the consumption of high-fructose corn syrup in conjunction with a high-fat diet — the equivalent of a typical fast-food meal containing a hamburger, fries and soda — and whether excessive high-fructose corn syrup consumption contributes to the diseases associated with obesity. Another step will be to study how fructose affects brain function in the control of appetite.

The research was supported by the U.S. Public Health Service.

Yoli Blast Cap Technology: How Does Freeze Drying Work?

October 21, 2009

Disclaimer: Yoli products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

I get many questions about Yoli’s products and how they work.  Many people are interested in the Blast Cap technology and how it works but I think another key aspect to the Yoli mission is understanding the power of freeze drying the Yoli nutrition so that all the key ingredients are locked in.

Below is a great video on how freeze drying actually works.  It should help you understand the detailed process that goes into Yoli’s nutritional products and the clear value that Yoli delivers above and beyond what you see in the current beverage market…

Why Freeze Dry?

The basic idea of freeze-drying is to completely remove water from some material, such as food, while leaving the basic structure and composition of the material intact. There are two reasons someone might want to do this with food:

“Did You Know: Freeze-drying technology was developed by NASA for the long distance Apollo missions.”

Reason #1 – Removing water keeps food from spoiling for a long period of time. Food spoils when microorganisms, such as bacteria, feed on the matter and decompose it. Bacteria may release chemicals that cause disease, or they may just release chemicals that make food taste bad. Additionally, naturally occurring enzymes in food can react with oxygen to cause spoiling and ripening.

Like people, microorganisms need water to survive, so if you remove water from food, it won’t spoil. Enzymes also need water to react with food, so dehydrating food will also stop ripening.

Reason #2 – Freeze-drying significantly reduces the total weight of the food. Most food is largely made up of water (many fruits are more than 80 to 90 percent water, in fact). Removing this water makes the food a lot lighter, which means it’s easier to transport.

The basic idea of freeze-drying is to “lock in” the composition and structure of the material by drying it without applying the heat necessary for the evaporation process. Instead, the freeze-drying process converts solid water — ice — directly into water vapor, skipping the liquid phase entirely. In the next section, we’ll find out how freeze-drying machines pull this off.
Simple version of a yoli freeze dryer
With most machines, you place the material to be preserved onto the shelves when it is still unfrozen. When you seal the chamber and begin the process, the machine runs the compressors to lower the temperature in the chamber. The material is frozen solid, which separates the water from everything around it, on a molecular level, even though the water is still present.

Next, the machine turns on the vacuum pump to force air out of the chamber, lowering the atmospheric pressure below .06 ATM. The heating units apply a small amount of heat to the shelves, causing the ice to change phase. Since the pressure is so low, the ice turns directly into water vapor. The water vapor flows out of the freeze-drying chamber, past the freezing coil. The water vapor condenses onto the freezing coil in solid ice form, in the same way water condenses as frost on a cold day.

Yoli-Freeze-Dryer

This continues for many hours (even days) while the material gradually dries out. The process takes so long because overheating the material can significantly change the composition and structure. Additionally, accelerating the sublimation process could produce more water vapor in a period of time then the pumping system can remove from the chamber. This could rehydrate the material somewhat, degrading its quality.
Once the material is dried sufficiently, it’s sealed in a moisture-free package, often with an oxygen-absorbing material.

As long as the package is secure, the material can sit on a shelf for years and years without degrading, until it’s restored to its original form with a bit of water (a very small amount of moisture remains, so the material will eventually spoil). If everything works correctly, the material will go through the entire process almost completely unscathed!

I hope this helps you understand the enormous value that Yoli is delivering with their products.  This allows us to consume an abundance of nutrition in a simple and convenient way each day.

Yoli Truth: Advertising Watchdog says Vitamin Water claims are misleading…

October 7, 2009

Disclaimer: Yoli products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Publicity for vitamin-enriched water made by Coca-Cola fell flat with the advertising watchdog for “misleading” claims about its nutritional benefits.

Watchdog bans Vitamin Water adverts…

Posters and a leaflet for Vitamin Water featured slogans such as “more muscles than brussels” and “keep perky when you’re feeling murky”.

An advert for the “power-c” drink said: “Popeye had it easy. A can of spinach and he bulked up … the nutrients in this bottle won’t enable you to walk on mud, or become a strapping sailor man, but they will help you beat your granny in an arm wrestle.”

Another read: “If you’ve had to use sick days because you’ve actually been sick, then you’re seriously missing out my friend. The trick is to stay perky and use sick days to just, erm, not go in.”

Complaints were made about the implications that the drinks were equivalent to vegetables and had health benefits such as raised energy levels and resistance to illness.

Two people also said that the adverts implied that the drinks were “healthy”, even though they contained 4.6 g of sugar per 100ml.

Coca-Cola insisted the advertising was “humorous and irreverent” and the reference to “brussels” referred to the nickname for action film star Jean Claude Van Damme aka “the Muscles from Brussels”, not sprouts.

The reference to staying “perky” meant mood rather than fighting illness, and consumers would not think that arm-wrestling their granny would need more energy.

But the Advertising Standards Authority upheld the objections.

The ASA also found that the drinks contained nearly a quarter of the recommended daily amount of sugar in 500ml but the publicity made it likely that consumers would think the products were “healthy”. The adverts must not be used again.

Yoli Truth: US Market – Healthy Beverages For Kids To Grow By Billions In Next 2 Years

September 30, 2009

Disclaimer: Yoli products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

The US market for children’s food and drink will grow in value by 50 percent from $16.4bn in 2007 to $26.8bn within two years, according to a new report from New Nutrition Business.Sugary Beverages

The report, Marketing Kids’ Healthy Beverages, identifies health drinks as making the biggest gains. Fruit juice, fruit-flavored water and dairy drinks are still the biggest and most dynamic areas of the junior beverage sector as more companies recognize that parents are looking for alternatives to sugary colas and sodas.

There are a number of factors that give fruit drinks for kids a competitive advantage over other categories,” says the report. “For one thing the “naturally healthy” image of fruit drinks makes them a suitable vehicle for health benefits – as does children’s love of fruit-flavored, sweet drinks. They are also convenient to carry and pack in lunchboxes.”

Appealing to customers

Underpinning a brand with the claim of naturalness is proving to be just as strong and profitable a trend in children’s food as in adult nutrition, according to the report.

Across all food and beverage categories, the message that a food or food component is naturally and intrinsically healthy is one of the most appealing to consumers in all cultures,” writes the report’s author, food specialist Julian Mellentin.

Yoli Truth IngredientsAs almost all of the ten case studies featured in the report illustrate, health-conscious parents are increasingly choosing products that they perceive to be as natural as possible. Increasingly they are shunning ingredients that they see as undesirable or unnatural or potentially harmful, such as added sugar and artificial sweeteners, preservatives, colors, or flavors. - (Yoli is completely natural with NO harmful ingredients)

Being able to offer one or more of the benefits of being “free-from” dairy or wheat (to take just two examples) is essential for any brand targeting children and health conscious parents,” advises the report. “Kids’ beverages should contain no added sugar – use apple or pear juice concentrates as your sweetener, or perhaps fructose.” - (Yoli fits the bill – no sugar in Yoli)

Although beverage products should be as natural as possible, manufacturers who want to deliver a health benefit from an added ingredient should choose one that mothers accept and understand. That means, in most countries, either a probiotic or an omega-3, said the report. - (Yoli Truth includes live enzymes and probiotics)

Digestive health

Parents’ key concerns for their children’s health focus on immunity and digestive health, according to the report.

“In coming years expect to see an increasing focus on developing brands to meet these needs. Concerns around digestive health suggest an untapped opportunity for fiber and probiotics,” it predicted.

Also important is strong beverage packaging which is equally as important as products’ scientific credentials, research and development, or advertising investment.

The report is available from New Nutrition Business.

What’s great about Yoli is that it is delicious and healthy.  Out of 20+ kids that I have personally seen try Yoli Truth, 99% of them liked it and wanted more.  My 3 year old daughter, Amaya, loves it and drinks it throughout the day.  Finally, we have something that we can drink as adults and the kids can enjoy as well that will improve our health and is simple and convenient to use.

Yoli Truth: Soda Consumption and Its Link to Obesity in California

September 28, 2009

Disclaimer: Yoli products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

The data continues to pour out about the huge problem of consuming the sugary drinks.  This data continues to support Yoli’s mission to give you an alternative to soda and the many other so-called ” healthy beverages that fill the aisles of grocery stores all over the United States.

While health officials have long suspected the link between obesity and soda consumption, research released provides the first scientific evidence of the potent role soda and other sugar-sweetened beverages play in fueling California’s expanding girth.

In the landmark study: Bubbling Over: Soda Consumption and Its Link to Obesity in California, researchers from the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research (CHPR) and the California Center for Public Health Advocacy (CCPHA) discovered a strong correlation between soda consumption and weight. Based upon data from more than 40,000 interviews conducted by the California Health Interview Surveys (CHIS), researchers found that adults who drink a soda or more per day are 27 percent more likely to be overweight than those who do not drink sodas, regardless of income or ethnicity.

“The science is clear and conclusive: soda is fueling California’s $41 billion a year obesity epidemic,” says CCPHA Executive Director Dr. Harold Goldstein, an author of the research brief. “We drink soda like water. But unlike water, soda serves up a whopping 17 teaspoons of sugar in every 20-ounce serving.”

Research shows that over the last 30 years Americans consumed 278 more calories per day even as physical activity levels remained relatively unchanged. One of the biggest changes in diet during that period was the enormous increase in soda consumption, accounting for as much as 43 percent of all new calories. According to Goldstein, that research, combined with this new data on soda consumption, offers conclusive proof of the link between soda and obesity.

And while adult soda consumption is troubling, consumption trends among children paint an even more alarming picture for the future health of California. The study found that 41 percent of young children (2-11 years of age) are drinking at least one soda or sugar-sweetened beverage every day. Adolescents (12-17) represent the biggest consumers, with 62 percent (over 2 million youths) drinking one or more sodas every day – the equivalent of consuming 39 pounds of sugar each year in soda and other sugar-sweetened beverages.

“Soda is cheap, sweet and irresistibly marketed to teens,” says the study’s lead author, Dr. Susan H. Babey, a research scientist with the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research. “Not enough teens know about the health and dietary risks of drinking huge quantities of what is essentially liquid sugar while television and advertising tell them it is ‘cool’ to do so.”

There were major differences in adult consumption rates by county, the study discovered. Nevertheless, the soda/obesity linkage still holds true – those who consume large amounts of soda, regardless of where they live, suffer disproportionally from obesity and overweight.

“If we are serious about tackling the obesity crisis, cutting back soda consumption has to be the top priority,” Goldstein asserts. “Parents, communities, businesses and government all have a role to play in helping to reduce consumption. We cannot afford to raise another ‘Pepsi Generation.’”

Funding for the study was provided by The California Endowment, a private statewide health foundation that is a national leader in the childhood obesity prevention movement.

“This research clearly shows the very serious health risks of drinking soda and other sweetened beverages. I hope policymakers will read this report closely and think about what they can do to combat the obesity epidemic that is clearly tied to consuming too many sodas,” says Dr. Robert K. Ross, president and CEO of The California Endowment.
